Ep 1 "Jack and Larsen"

"the scenes i love the best are the ones where larsen isn't aware of how he's behaving and why.

Specifically

1) this scene where literally the site of edgar touching jack for a sec too long sends larsen fleeing from the stage.

2) the soccer tryouts where he almost knocks poor rachael over like 3 times to be the keeper of jack's things and to rescue him from the aftermath of gabby's ire!

it's like his impulses and instincts know he loves jack ever tho his brain can't really handle it yet."

"I think it's sorta preposterous to believe that Larsen's place in the school hierarchy can be usurped by such a mincing drag queen (I don't mean you Andrew, I mean Edgar)" -jhr459

Ep 7 "The Senior Tea"

I liked Edgar except for his behavior on prom night when he was telling Larsen he was "all alone" and all that. Otherwise, he was sweet with Jack on their "sleepover", and I'm always in to truly bi characters. Also glad he stood up for himself and decided not to play second fiddle. :)

Ep 8 "Lunch Dates"

"What fantasy land is Cecelia living in? She's known Larsen all of a minute and she's in love? For sure Jack didn't mean what he said. He doesn't want to get hurt and like someone mentioned before, Larsen is all talk. Larsen may not be gay, but he does have feelings for another man and its confusing for him which path is right. His path is Jack right now, he needs to realise that. The labels can wait." -ksb78

Ep 9 "Surprise Surprise"

"Oh No You Don't! You are in big trouble Mr!

You know we need more Jack and Larsen than that! After everything they/we went through to see them together, you know that's NOT NEARLY ENOUGH? Right?!

I don't care if you have to recast with random NYU actors kidnapped off the streets, we need a more romantic closure! Stat!

Some hugging and I love Yous and a lot more kissing and sweet talk.

Divas Ep 8 "Cougar"

Get ready for the denouement of the century! Divas Season 2 concludes with Episode 8 "Cougar". As Leanne recovers from a devastating car accident, Shane and Kelly try to regain her trust. Theo starts to get attached to Kelly, only to discover the truth about their relationship. And as for Lori, she finds she may lose her latest young stud Rinaldo to an unexpected rival cougar.

Divas Ep 7 "Lori's Revenge"

Plenty of action as DIVAS continues to heat up. In episode 7 "Lori's Revenge", Leanne and Kelly's friendship breaks up after their bitter fight at the pool party. Lori pretends to have changed her wicked ways and become a good stepmother to Leanne, only to take her revenge by destroying Leanne's relationship with Shane on the eve of their wedding. The episode ends in tears and a tragic car accident.

Announcing pre-production on the follow up to "The Demon Lady" my gothic horror film: "Victor Durant, Vampire Hunter".

Based on a set of short stories I wrote several years ago, this web based series will bring the supernatural action and eroticism of "The Demon Lady" into the modern world, following Victor Durant, a descendant of Erik Durant, the protagonist of the earlier film. Victor has sworn his life to protecting the world of the living from the world of the dead, but when those lines start to blur, he will have to make a devastating choice.

I'm hoping to shoot in August 2010, so look for "Victor Durant, Vampire Hunter" this fall, alongside the online release of "The Demon Lady".

The disAbility Project

Just wanted to share my story about a wonderful group of people I had the pleasure of working with earlier this year. Here's the behind-the-scenes videos I created for the Uppity Theater Company's DisAbility Project Production of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.

This first video features interviews with cast and crew of the play.

Next, here's a music video I shot of one number from the play.

Co-founded by Joan Lipkin and Fran Cohen, The DisAbility Project represents one of the most comprehensive creative endeavors in the Midwest to address issues of disability and creativity. Few organizations in the country have presented such a broad-based collaboration between disabled and able-bodied actors, artists, designers, activists, and other members of the community.

Okay, so I've received a lot of messages and posts about the return of Prep School Blues. I know all our loyal fans would love more episodes continuing the story of Jack and Larsen. I want to state for those of you that do not know, the Prep School Blues web series will NOT be returning at any time in the near future.

We all dearly love the show and hope to one day pick it up again, but currently there are no plans for more productions. Most of the cast and crew is tied up working on other projects at this time. If a financially beneficial situation came up where I could afford to salary everyone and bring the show back with a high production standard I would jump on it, but unfortunately that is not happening right now. I have written a full length pilot script for a television revival, so with all luck maybe we can move PSB to the next level someday.

I do, however, want to thank all the wonderful people who made the Prep School Blues web series possible by giving their time, energy and commitment for two years without pay, as well as the amazing viewers who wrote in to express their love and support of the show.

For those of you who want to keep supporting the show, I want to let you know that there is going to be a variety of PSB media coming out over the next year:

ONLINE: I am planning on recording director's commentary tracks for all nine episodes of the show and releasing them online. I feel that, along with the comprehensive behind the scenes videos, these commentary tracks will provide an in depth look into the series to rival any big special edition DVD. And all for free too!

DVD: Speaking of DVDs, "Prep School Blues: The Complete Series" is still available for order, now for $15 plus shipping cost (25% discounted from the original $20 price). Email prepschoolblues@gmail.com to place an order. And trust me, the show looks really good on a big flat screen TV.

PRINT: The stories for the new Prep School Blues comic have been written. Although the first artist fell through, I have plans to relaunch the comic over the summer with a new artist. I also have an outline for a Prep School Blues tie-in novel, which I hope to self publish, providing demand is high enough. This is the project I am most excited about because I have many Jack and Larsen stories I would love to share with the audience.

The Many Faces of Chris Conner

So who's the man behind these videos? Well, my name is Chris Conner and I am the writer director of Prep School Blues as well as The Demon Lady, Lonely Ridge and the upcoming series Divas. I suddenly realized that there's not that much information about me up on this blog, so here's the many faces of me. And by the way, above is a photo of me in front of my favorite place in New York City, the Metropolitan Opera House.

First off, here's a short bio of me featured on the First Run Film Festival website earlier this year:

Christopher Conner graduated May 2009 from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Chris enjoys going to the Metropolitan Opera, volunteering for international charities and spending time with his loving Filipino American Family. Recently, Chris devoted himself to an innovative production of The Trojan Women at NYU's Experimental Theater Wing. The Demon Lady was a very personal and political film for Chris, a true labor of love that he hopes will challenge, excite and titillate audiences.

So if you checked out the First Run Festival Page, you may have noticed that THE DEMON LADY, also known as the greatest film of all time (at least by me haha), is followed in screening order by The Turning Love Affair. Just wanted to blog a bit and say that there is no reason to turn around and walk out right after my movie, because you should stay and check out this amazing science fiction neo noir romance by my classmate Natasha Kermani, whom I met in Darrell Wilson's Advanced Experimental Film Workshop 08-09, the same class where I developed The Demon Lady.

THE TURING LOVE AFFAIR is the story of a beautiful cyborg accused of murdering a famous composer aboard a space station. I got to witness firsthand some of the pre-production, shooting and footage of this film and you can trust me, it's not to be missed. Spotlight: Andrew Fanelli in Prep School Blues

I am thrilled to present the next installment of the spotlight interviews, an intimate chat with the amazing Andrew Fanelli who played Edgar in Prep School Blues. Although the character met a grisly off screen death in between seasons 2 and 3, Fanelli is well and thriving in New York City along with his band SHAPES. You can currently find their new EP "I feel, therefore I drink" online on MySpace and at the iTunes store.

Q: What got you into acting?

Fanelli: i genuinely don't know what got me into acting. i suppose just wanting to be the center of attention... or maybe it's cause it's easier for me to be honest when somebody else is writing my words. my mother inspires me. and so does my cat. i used to run. there's something inspiring about that yeah? never stop moving forward.

Q: How did you get involved with the PSB project?

Fanelli: oh man. i was working at a vegan place called sacred chow. i hadn't seen chris conner in almost a year. and he just glided in and started talking about this project. it sounded like a lot of fun and over time we took a character, Edgar (my character), and really brought him from somebody who was just there doing whatever it is that he did, to being a very important person who i believe genuinely changed the other characters lives. i think anybody who came in contact with edgar was changed by him and had their lives turned upside down. i know i did.

Q: Any favorite behind-the-scenes memories?

Fanelli: thousands, but none i can speak about in public :D

Q: How did you connect with your character?

Fanelli: i just tried to find myself in him and him in me. easier said than done haha. actually w/ edgar chris had written a very vibrant exciting young man who was just so real it was hard not to connect with him. perhaps he was a little too close to me... in the sense that playing him really did confuse me. sometimes i didn't feel as though i was acting... not to say i'm some amazing actor. i could be awful. but... edgar and i are very similar. there wasn't much character work that needed to be done. just work on myself... and i'm still working. ha.

Q: What are you working on now?

Fanelli: oh man. been signed exclusively for voice over work. i average about 1-3 auditions a week... which is amazing. freelancing w/ a bunch of on screen agents. working very passionately with my band. we just released our first EP and oddly enough have some attention, and the possibility of future mentions in italian vogue (don't ask. i don't know either. great management.), nylon, and interview to name a few. and there's one really exciting documentary project so to speak that i really actually am not at liberty to talk about. not by my own doing, but ya know... i actually can't speak of it. haha. so seeing how that turns out and if it does turn out you'll all know haha. so fingers crossed. xoxo right? that's how we do things? ;)

The Demon Lady - First Run Screening

Why did I put up this pic of Zephyr smiling? Well...more than a year after our shoot, "The Demon Lady" will finally premiere next month! So, after a very long wait and a complex set of circumstances, my film "The Demon Lady" will be screened at the Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television's First Run Film Festival 2010. Contrary to previous updates I put out on twitter and facebook, the film will be screened in the festival proper at 1:30 PM on Sunday April 11, 2010 at New York University's Cantor Film Center (36 8th Street New York, NY 10003, Room 200).

Below is the afternoon's films screening schedule, including some excellent films you should also watch by my fellow classmates from NYU.

Spotlight: Sara Smaltz in Prep School Blues

Up next on the spotlight feature, here's an interview with the red-headed vixen Sara Smaltz who played Gabrielle in Prep School Blues as well as some pics of Sara with co-stars Bryan Dechart and Andrew Fanelli.

Q: What's your background in the performing arts?

Sara: I was a musician since I was a child. I played guitar and flute. Then I started singing opera when I was in high school and that led to me doing a lot of musical theater. When I moved to New York to go to college, I started acting in films, mostly as a favor to friends, then after time more people started asking me to do projects.

Q: How did you get involved with this project?

Sara: Chris needed an actress for the original pilot he was shooting for his intermediate class. I played both Rachel and Gabby in the first cut of the pilot, simply because we didn't feel like looking for another actress and were watching Twin Peaks (which featured Sheryl Lee in dual roles as Maddie Ferguson and Laura Palmer) at the time. The series developed from the strengths and weaknesses of the pilot.

Q: Favorite memories?

Sara: Visiting the beautiful Joseph estate, getting to visit Governor French Academy, our terrible photo shoot at the beach when me and Andrew got sun poisoning! Learning to play soccer and of course Emmy's 21st birthday which we celebrated during the season 3 shoot at PT's World Famous Showplace.

Q: How did you connect with Gabrielle?

Sara: I connected with her sense of loneliness and isolation and the continual nature of the setbacks she suffered. I definitely understood her defensive, abrasive nature.

Q:What was your biggest challenge during this project?

My biggest challenge was playing a "bitch", someone who is as aggressively confrontational as Gabby. Also wearing a really short skirt in the cemetery scene because it was very cold that day!

Q: What are you doing these days?

Sara: I am working as an assistant in Manhattan and finishing a script for a short film I plan to shoot later in the year and a documentary.

Next in my spotlight series, here's an interview with the lovely Jillian Hausmann, who plays the devious lesbian Jennifer in Lonely Ridge. Also featuring some pics of Jillian with co-stars Solana Jimerson and Cindy Wuebells.

Q: Have you acted before Lonely Ridge?

Jillian: Other than grade school musicals, Lonely Ridge was the first acting project that I've taken part in.

Q: Who was your character in Lonely Ridge?

Jillian: I played the role of Jennifer; the beautiful, bitchy sister of Brock who is out to get Hope. I loved playing the part, simply because I got to act like such a bitch. While I am not personally as rude and conceited as Jennifer is, it was surprisingly easy (and fun) to find my "inner attitude" and let loose.

Q: What challenges did you face playing Jennifer?

Jillian: Jennifer and Hope's scene together in the bathroom however, was a little more challenging. It was really hard to keep from laughing while I had to basically come on to one of my best friend's (Solana Jimerson as Hope). I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of filming Lonely Ridge, and the entire experience was definitely a memorable one!

Spotlight: Alyssa Peterson in Prep School Blues

Next in the spotlight series, it is my great pleasure to present an interview with the radiant Alyssa "Appie" Peterson, who played Rachel in Prep School Blues. I first met Alyssa years ago, she was the little sister of my friend Shaina from high school. A classically trained ballerina, Alyssa is one of the most intelligent, vibrant, passionate artists I know, even at her young age. When I first cast her as Rachel in the fall of 2007, she was only fourteen years old! As the series progressed I saw Alyssa both grow up and mature as an actress. Some of her scenes truly move me, even after all this time. Here's the interview.

Q: What got you into acting? Favorite roles? Inspirations?

Alyssa: My first experience in theater was in the seventh grade when my headmaster told me I was a little minx so I should be Charlotte Goodall in Tennessee Williams' Night of the Iguana. Funny start, but I already loved the stage from my ballet dancing and once I got into theater I knew I had found a true passion. I have enjoyed every role I have had the privilege of performing because each one teaches you something new about performing, the human condition, and yourself. Two of my favorites are Lady Macbeth and Christine in Dancing at Lughnasa - they both taught me a great deal about finding the role within myself. Some of the people who ispire me the most are Scarlett Johanson and Natalie Portman - they both take on so many different characters while maintaining a quality that is uniquely their own.

Q: How did you get involved in the PSB project? Who was your character?

Alyssa: As I said before, I was very active in my school's drama program, and my school's drama program was pretty much fueled by Chris Conner's love for theater. The first time I really got to know him was during a rehearsal for Cabaret in which my older sister was the lead. From then on, I have always loved working with Chris and anytime he has a project, I jump at the chance to work with him; so of course I said yes when he asked me to be in PSB. My character was Rachel, a girl I could have been in another life, and I have enjoyed developing her throughout the project.

Q: Do you have any favorite/distinctive memories from working on PSB?

Alyssa: Too many to count or list. I am very fond of season two, filmed in NYC, because I got to meet the actors in their own element. I had a lot of fun shooting the soccer scenes with Sara, mostly because we are both pretty girly and neither of us really knew what to do. What's worse is that I was supposed to be teaching her, and my athletic experience is mostly in a ballet studio, so that was pretty funny. Especially when I run...

Q: How did you connect with your PSB character? Any specific challenges? How did your character evolve over the course of the series and how did you portray this?

Alyssa: When I first read the script I wasn't very fond of Rachel, I thought she sounded like an exaggerated snob who thought fun would send her to hell. I spent a lot of time with Chris going over why she is the way that she is and what she was trying to work for - by the end of the project, I knew her inside and out felt her pain and frustration myself, at that point, it didn't feel like acting anymore it felt like I was just being myself.

Q: What are you doing now? Any current projects/plans?

Alyssa: I am currently a freshman at the University of Missouri - Kansas City double majoring in Dance performance and Chemical Engineering. I have performed in the fall dance concert and am preparing for the spring concert, which will consist of works by Balanchine, Gary Abbott, and Josh Beamish. I haven't done any theater or film acting since PSB, but it is definitely still a passion of mine and if given the opportunity would gladly perform again.

In Prep School Blues Episode 5 "Romeo Oh Romeo": Jack directs his first play, Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet", but finds his love of theater (and his relationship with Edgar!) may threaten his friendship with Larsen. Gabrielle and Edgar grow closer as co-stars portraying the doomed lovers in the play. Rachel counsels Jack when things turn sour with both Larsen and Edgar.

Spotlight: Solana Jimerson in Lonely Ridge

Next in the spotlight series, here's an interview with the indomitable Solana Jimerson about her role in Lonely Ridge.

Q: What's your background in the performing arts?

Solana: It all began when I sang and danced on stage in small town, Breese, IL, to the musical, School House Rock. I always loved to perform as a young girl ever since I participated in tap, jazz, ballet, and tumbling when I was only 12 years old.

Q: How did you connect with your character in Lonely Ridge?

Solana: I played the beautiful Hope, married to Brock Archer. Hope was calm and sweet, but deep down a hurt individual. I tried to make Hope as mellow as I could to show that she was classy and under control ... until she confronted Laura Archer. I loved playing this part because I am for the most part a mellow person unless forced to take action in defense for myself.

Q: What challenges did you face on set?

Solana: My favorite part of this movie was yelling at Cindy, who plays Laura Archer. It was a great challenge that I was excited to master. Everything was fun for the most part except for the part when I had to be outside forever. I hated every minute of the freezing cold, but we all worked so hard and the outcome of our hard work was shown in the movie. I hope everyone enjoys watching this movie as much as I enjoyed making it!

Q: Have you acted before Divas?
Sara: My acting career began last year as one of the "Bitches of the Pew" in Prep School Blues.

Q: What challenges did you face playing your character in Divas?
Sara: In Diva's I played the role of Kelly Lenox, the coked out, best friend of Leanne, with a bad reputation. The main thing I focused on was approaching Kelly as dramatic and scandalous as possible. In order to connect with her, I concentrated on her intense Jersey accent, which was also my biggest challenge since it was completely hilarious.

Q: Any memories from the shoot you'd like to share?
Sara: The entire shoot was a blast, filled with multiple memories. However, my absolute favorite part of the shoot was saying my famous line, “Somebody call the docta!”

Spotlight: Emmy Yu in Prep School Blues

It is my pleasure to bring to you all an interview with one of the most lovely actresses I have ever worked with, Miss Emmy Yu! Although Emmy played the obsessive, vindictive Cecelia on Prep School Blues, she is actually a total sweetheart in real life and of course an incredible beauty. A senior at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Emmy hails from sunny California and is of Chinese heritage. Here's our interview:

Q: You have quite the resume, including commercials, feature films and television. How long have you been acting?

Emmy: My mom got me into acting when I was 5, when she saw this ad in the newspaper casting for “The Joy-Luck Club”. Ended up getting the role and that’s how it all started!

Q: What are your favorite roles? Who are your inspirations?

Emmy: I don’t really have a favorite role thus far but my inspirations include Maggie Cheung, Kate Winslet, and Natalie Portman.

Q: How did you get involved with Prep School Blues?

Emmy: I got involved thanks to Chris Conner =)

Q: Any favorite memories of the shoot?

Emmy: Honestly the entire shoot was pretty memorable! Though I think the climax was definitely shooting the party scene—not only because it was the climax of the season really but because it was the scene where I had the most lines and work to do.

Q: What challenges did the character of Cecelia present for you?

Emmy: The main thing I concentrated on was not approaching Cecelia like she was some kind of psychopath. In order to connect with her I just needed to focus on her super intense needs and wants—which in this case was Larsen.

Q: It's been about a year since you shot the last episode of Prep School Blues. What are you working on currently?

Emmy: Mostly writing these days but doing a couple acting projects on the side. Enjoying my final semester at NYU!

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Also just as Valentine's Day draws to a close, another post to celebrate love and romance. Here's a few scenes from my performance as Bottom in William Shakespeare's immortal tale of fairies, runaway lovers and amateur actors. Although I usually stay behind the camera and the curtain, I have a great passion for theater. So hope I'm not too shabby as Bottom, the pompous actor who is transformed by fairy magic into a donkey. I've also included some scenes of Habeeb Khan from Prep School Blues as Lysander, one of the quartet of young lovers. Sorry for the video quality, it's a little hazy, but I assure you the performance is quite worth it. Not to toot my own horn, of course. You be the judge!

In this first clip, the Fairy Queen Titania quarrels with her husband King Oberon (played as a lesbian couple in this production). Meanwhile, Lysander (Habeeb Khan) tries to runaway with his beloved Hermia, under a magic spell causes him to fall for her friend Helena instead.

In this second clip, a band of amateur players rehearse a play to be performed for the Duke. I, as Bottom, try to call all the shots until the fairy Puck transforms me into a donkey and I arouse the ardor of Queen Titania.

Here, Oberon and Puck try to sort of the mess their magic has caused as the four lovers quickly descend into a fight over their complex romantic relationships.

In this final clip, the magic spell that made me a donkey is removed and we put on the play for the Duke. I love the play within a play, one of the funniest scenes ever written!

Spotlight: Jonathan Klingler in Divas

Next in my spotlight series, here's an interview with Jonathan Klingler, who played the role of John in Divas! Jonathan played a comparatively small role in Divas, but he had no small share of fun on set. He is currently a grad student at University of Rochester, New York.

Q: What's your background? Have you done previous film/acting projects?
Jonathan: I don't really have a background in the arts, but I have enjoyed watching many of Chris's films in the past, so I was excited to be able to participate in the project. I enjoyed having a small role and it was a lot of fun.

Q: What character do you play in Divas? How did you connect with your character?
Jonathan: The character I played in Divas was John, the best friend of the deceased, Steven. The character has just traveled into town for his friend's funeral and tries to console Steven's widow. I connected with the character by drawing upon my own experiences at funerals and the grief that comes with losing a friend.

Q: Do you have any favorite moments from working on the shoot? Funny stories? Problems?

Jonathan: While I was waiting for my scene, I had a great time talking with other cast members. I spent a lot of time talking with Chris' grandmother, who is one of the nicest people I've ever met and I had a blast talking with her about all manner of things. It was a lot of fun.

Titus Andronicus

I'm very excited to present these excerpts from the production of William Shakespeare's "Titus Andronicus" that I directed a while back at the Geraldine Ruby Theater. This famously gory play chronicles the vengeance taken by the Roman General Titus Andronicus against the Empress Tamora, whose sons raped and mutilated his beloved daughter Lavinia.

It was quite a challenge directing one of Shakespeare's plays, but for me the results were very much worth it. I did make a few changes to the flow of the plot and abridged certain parts to fit our time restraints and budget. These videos showcase some of my favorite scenes from the play and the wonderfully talented cast that I worked with, including Habeeb Khan (Fareed from Prep School Blues) as the villainous Aaron the Moor. You really have to see Habeeb's rendition of Aaron's Act II monologue to believe it. So much power and intensity! Habeeb is currently reviving his Shakespearean talents in a production of the Bard's "Measure for Measure" at Columbia University in New York City.

This first excerpt shows the Empress's secret love affair with Aaron the moor, one of the most dastardly couples in all Shakespeare.

This next excerpt shows Aaron's bone chilling monologue about his many evil deeds when captured by Lucius, son of Titus Andronicus.

Here, Tamora tries to manipulate Titus, but Titus gets the upper hand in this battle of wills.

In this darkly comic scene, Titus confronts the two boys who raped his daughter.

The final scene starts at a Roman banquet that descends into a shocking bloodbath, from which one emperor will fall and another will rise.

I had so much fun doing this play and hope to direct more theater in the future. Thanks for watching!

Spotlight: Nicko Sabado in Lonely Ridge

For this next installment, here's an interview with Filipino-American actor Nicko Sabado. In Lonely Ridge, Nicko plays the adopted son of the wealthy Archer family.

Q: What is your acting background?
Nicko: I moved to the US from the Philippines when I was 13 and spent my whole life living in the state of Oklahoma. Then, I finally moved to city where all dreams begin, Los Angeles. I have done several theater shows and commercials in Oklahoma. I am currently writing screenplays, attending acting classes and creating my reel while in Los Angeles.

Q: How would you describe your character in Lonely Ridge?
Nicko: In the film Lonely Ridge, I portrayed the life of Dylan Archer. He is a very quite, respectable and caring for the others, especially to his step mom. He follows and goes where everyone in the family goes. He is sensitive and a musician.

Q: What challenges did you face and how did you connect with your character?
Nicko: The challenge I had dealt with was Hope leaving. I felt very close that it broke my body seeing her leave. I had to catch some air every scene cut because it was so meaningful. I use Ivana Chubbuck technique to connect with my character.

Q: Any favorite moments to share from the shoot?
Nicko: My favorite thing about the shoot was the cast were very straight forward and professional. Also, I got close to them and they are amazing people. Funny moments...like Luke using the bathroom and stinking up the whole set! Shooting outside with 15 degree weather. Brrr… it was tough but the cast and crew fight through it and came up positive.

Spotlight: Luke Gruender in Lonely Ridge

Now when Luke Gruender came for a walk on role on PSB, I actually got a couple messages asking about and if he was going to be on the show more or figure into any of Jack and Larsen's story lines. Obviously 'cause he's quite the hunk! Well Luke didn't get much screen time on Prep School Blues, but look forward to seeing a lot more of him in my upcoming series Lonely Ridge. Here's a spotlight interview with Luke.

Q: What's your background as far as acting?
Luke: The only previous acting experience I have had was my experience last winter working on the closing scenes of Prep School Blues. I had several scenes where Zeke, the long lost character of Prep School Blues was reveal and a possible spin-off was thought of, however this dream never came to fruition. It was an eventful experience that I used to propel myself through a completely Spanish movie that I made for my Spanish class in my first semester of college at the wonderful Illinois College.

Q: What's your role on Lonely Ridge?
Luke: I portrayed Brock in Lonely Ridge. He is a strong intelligent young man in his early twenties that has recently been married to the beautiful Hope. This character was not very hard to identify with in my own life because I try to hold my own ground and be a strong, defined young man that is ready to lead the way in any endeavor.

Q: Do you have any favorite moments from the shoot?
Luke: My favorite experience is in all the whole process of seeing how a movie can come together and working hard to get that perfect scene. However the love scene with Hope did get a little steamy for those that have seen the movie!

Q: What challenges did you face as a first time actor?
Luke: The hardest part for me was trying to not think very much as for what I was doing on camera. I tried to remain loose and natural and not be so predetermined with my actions. I hope everyone enjoys all of the performance. God Bless!

Spotlight: Habeeb Khan in Prep School Blues

For our next installment of spotlight, here's an interview with Habeeb Khan, who played Fareed in Prep School Blues!

Q: What got you into acting?
Habeeb: I think watching movies as a kid, i felt transported into a very real world through someone's motions, internal and/or external, and others' reactions to them.

Q: Who are your inspirations as an actor?
Habeeb: DeNiro in Raging Bull always makes me want to be right on my game. Same goes for Pacino in Godfather and Dog Day Afternoon.

Q: How did you get involved in the PSB project?
Habeeb: I guess you can say I was there from the beginning. Part of in the inspiration for the series comes from the high school that the director and I graduated from.

Q: Do you have any favorite/distinctive memories from working on PSB?
Habeeb: The first day of rehearsing in a hotel pool pretty much set the tone for the entire shoot.

Q: How did you connect with your PSB character? Any specific challenges?
Habeeb: I found it difficult at first to separate fact from fiction since I was so close to some of the source material. But I eventually attempted to tackle it like any fictional story and start from a blank slate.

Q: How did your character evolve and develop throughout the series? And how did you portray this evolution?
Habeeb: My character was supposed to be very timid at the beginning of the serious, a bit more uncertain, always awkward with his aggressive actions, shoulders hunched over and whatnot. Near the end of the series, he comes out a bit too secure in his insecurities, so I had the character grow out an outdated facial design along with very dated wardrobe. The character embraces the clown prince of sadness persona near the end, so I felt more free to play with my space a bit more near the end.

Q: What are you doing now? Any current projects?
Habeeb: I'm currently working on Shakespeare's "Measure for Measure" at Columbia University.

Next on the spotlight feature, here's an interview with Sanli Brandmeyer about her role in my upcoming series DIVAS! Pictured with Sanli are co-stars Sara Rieger, Michael Dowell and Maricar Anderson from DIVAS.

Q: What's your acting background?
Sanli: My acting career began at a very young age when I debuted in my preschool Christmas play as an angel. Since then I have acted in musicals such as Camp Sunshine, Mother Goose Inc., and School House Rock live Jr. for the Clinton County Showcase, where I scored a leading role.

Q: How would you describe your character in Divas?
Sanli: In the recent production of Divas, I played Leanne, a crazed, dramatic party-girl who suffers a nervous breakdown due to her father's death. Despite all the chaos Leanne undergoes, she manages to remain a classy, fabulous diva.

Q: What challenges did this role present for you? How did you connect with your character?
Sanli: Since Leanne is a very dramatic and exaggerated character, it was a challenge to not burst into laughter on the set. However, I had no problem finding the "inner Leanne" in me, for the character and I share a similar, dramatic personality.

Q: Do you have any favorite moments from working on the shoot?
Sanli: My favorite moments onset include the funeral scene, the extraordinary acting exhibited by Maricar and Elcee, & Grandma Linda's scenes as Wanda. Most of all, I will never forget getting the opportunity to make out with Michael Dowell (Shane Pirelli)!

Q: What got you into acting?

Nick: Too far back. I can't remember.

Q: Favorite roles? Inspirations?

Nick: Anything Tim Roth, Marlon Brando, Ewan McGreggor.

Q: How did you get involved in the PSB project?

Nick: My friend Bryan did an original pilot with another actor as Jack, and when he was replaced I was suggested. I had an audition.

Q: Do you have any favorite/distinctive memories from working on PSB?

Nick: I think I was pretty drunk the whole time...

Q: How did you connect with your PSB character? Any specific challenges?

Nick: Challenges? The cold-as-hell graveyard scene was the most challenging.

Q: What are you doing now? Any current projects/plans?
Nick: Working most closely with my band, The Kobolds, and auditioning. Waiting for a few great projects I did last year to be released for a reel.

Time for the first installment of my new blog feature which spotlights actors and crew from my various films with interviews and photos. Here's a few words from Jake Sopiars, who plays Theo in Divas:

"Before Divas I didn't have any acting experience at all, and I played Theo in Divas. Theo was a cheating husband with a bad temper. I really had a lot of fun playing this role, but just being comfortable in front of the camera was tough. I thought I got better at being a dick by the time the shoot was over though. I am really glad that I got to be involved in the shoot, just being able to do something new was so much fun!"

Prep School Blues will continue! I am pleased to announce that some of my never-before-seen Jack and Larsen stories will be released in comic book form later Spring 2010, thanks to photoshop, comic life software and way too much time on my hands. This upcoming currently untitled miniseries will consist of three issues and pick up where the series left off to continue the story of Jack and Larsen. If response is good, I might do another set of comics later.

Forest Bandit

Now for a real blast from the past!

"Forest Bandit", my bizarre experimental take on the Samurai film genre, was part of my portfolio for film school applications senior year of high school. Featuring both some very color blind casting choices. I put Lebanese, Filipino, Iranian, Indian, Croatian and Korean actors in the roles of the Japanese characters, as many theaters do for productions of Shakespeare and classical opera. The cast even includes Habeeb Khan, Fareed from the later "Prep School Blues" as a Samurai!

A true blend of genres, "Forest Bandit" mixes eastern and western storytelling to create a film that is tragedy and comedy, that takes a detour down the road of surrealism and ends up a heartfelt romance. Watch the full film below:

Happy New Year to All! And now to news about my upcoming new film "Lonely Ridge".

First off, I would like to introduce cast member Nicko Sabado. Some of you may have seen Nicko in a certain fantastic RayBan ad campaign featured in many locations including a billboard in New York City's Times Square, but in addition to modeling both for the camera and on the runway, this Filipino-American actor has also appeared in films such as "War of Ages" (2008) and "Couples Retreat" (2009).

Nicko will be playing the adopted son of a wealthy family in "Lonely Ridge", which shoots very soon in January 2010. Keep checking back for more updates on the progress of both this film and my other project "Divas".

PSB Real Teen Issues: Expanded Edition

Over a year ago, I wrote a blog post about real teen issues due to some concerns about the content on Prep School Blues. Some viewers brought up that some of these characters may not be the best role models: smoking cigarettes and marijuana, consuming alcohol, engaging in sexual behavior, etc. So just to put any younger viewers (and their parents) at ease, I should remind you all that teen soaps are just a fantasy. While certain problems may seem glamorous in fiction, lots of real life teens face discrimination, substance abuse and the consequences of sex every day.

Here's some resources for anyone facing problems like the characters in Prep School Blues, expanded to include additional information inspired by the later story lines on the show:

Jack has to deal with his homosexuality, something not always accepted in certain more repressive communities. If you are facing discrimination for being gay, you are not alone. The Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network works to bring respect and tolerance to young people across America. And there are plenty of other resources such as The Gay Youth Corner and organizations like OutProud for LGBT youth.

Larsen abuses several substances on a regular basis including alcohol, tobacco and marijuana. While this may seem cool, drug use can be very dangerous, especially for young people who don't have all the facts. For more information, visit the National Institute on Drug Abuse for Teens and The Partership for Drug Free America.

Gabrielle enjoys the attentions of boys around school, but actually having sex is a serious business. One out of three girls who has unprotected sex will become pregnant, even if they only do it once. Planned Parenthood offers details on contraception and options for unwanted pregancy. All sexually active people run the risk of contracting many sexually transmitted diseases including HIV and AIDS. The Center of Disease Control and Prevention provides a wealth of information on these potentially deadly illnesses. If you think you or someone you know may be at risk for STDS, you can find a testing center near you through with the National HIV and STD Testing Resources.

Fareed's suicide attempt could have resulted in a terrible tragedy if he had succeeded. However, many teens do make this awful mistake every year. The Trevor Project offers a round-the-clock helpline for suicidal teens. You can learn more about the symptoms of depression at Suicide Awareness Voices of Education. Problems at home can make teens feel they have no where to turn. Every year thousands of children are abused by family members and so-called friends. The National Center for Victims of Crime has excellent information and resources for victims of abuse and those who want to help.

Some call Cecelia crazy, but mental illnesses are no laughing manner. Issues with mental health can be serious problems that people struggle with for years. The National Institute of Mental Health offers up to date news on research and outreach in this ever expanding field of medicine. Also, for those in the United States Mental Heath America provides a community based network dedicated to helping Americans live healthier lives, while the National Alliance on Mental Illness has easy-to-understand information about mental illnesses, mental health care, diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

Rachel is a driven and independent girl focused on her education. Dedication to academics can make a difference in anyone's future. Schools in the USA can help you find out what college is right for you, while College Board features tools to help you compete in the application process.

Anyone's teenage years can be a rough time and the best way to get through it is to be informed!

Coming soon to wherever it can, this queer-horror-gothic-romance piece was my thesis film at NYU and a total labor of love for all of us cast and crew. An adolescent boy in Victorian Englad coming to terms with both his burgeoning sexual desires and a malevolent supernatural force? If I may say so, could be the most intense film of all time. Can't wait for the release? Promos, trailers and behind the scenes footage should tide you over till then.

Producer, Director of Photography and treasured friend, Kevin has been an invaluable resource to both the PSB franchise and my life. You truly are a womanizer, K-Hoop.

This beautiful British bombshell played the character of Ursula in The Demon Lady. And she was utterly fabulous, with the aid of many many cups of tea. Way to rock those period costumes, Amanda. Love you.

Newcomer of the Year
Zephyr Benson
From his sexy, brooding role as Erik in The Demon Lady to his heartbreaking performance as a suicidal teen in Loser, this seventeen-year-old actor has made his own mark on the Benson dynasty, stepping out of the shadows to start what looks to be a promising career as actor, director and artist.

Wedding of the Year
Gina Cagas-Brandmeyer and Alan Zurliene
Gina, the wonderful guest star and assistant producer for PSB Season 3, tied the knot to her second husband in a romantic seaside ceremony last July. Congrats, Gina and Alan! Hope this one works out for you guys.

Musical Artist of the Year

From their many public concerts, shows and cool new EP, SHAPES has really grown as a band and musical group. Although Andrew Fanelli may have left PSB to focus on his music, we applaud all his hard work "making it safe to dance to punk".

Best wishes to PSB's Habeeb Khan. Not only did he make the move from St. Louis to the Big Apple to further pursue his acting career, we all know he's been spotted with Stella Adler Studios trained stunning actress/model Kate Moran. We at PSB always appreciate a good love story and this should be one for the ages. Way to go you two crazy kids!
