Finale Conclusion

At long last, the conclusion to the finale of Prep School Blues: Season Three. This is essentially the end of the current web series, but we hope to bring Prep School Blues to bigger and better venues in the future. Keep checking the blog for more updates on the status of PSB and thanks for watching!

Episode 9: Surprise Surprise Pt 2

Emmy makes a movie

So, our little Emmy has made a MOVIE! Produced for her intermediate core production class at NYU Tisch School of the Arts, the film doesn't have a title yet, but it is shot and in post-production.  Look for the film at next year's Maurice Kanbar Institute of Film and Television Intermediate Film Festival.

The story deals with the bond between a little girl and a teenage boy, with glimpses into the fantasy world of vampirism. Many people worked on this project, including some familiar faces and PSB alumni such as Nicholas DiMichele (Jack), Kevin Hooper (DP) and Alex McBean (Art Director/Photographer).

For more information, check out the official facebook group of the Untitled Emmy Yu Project.

Here's some behind-the-scenes pics from the production.

Drag Show Video Verite 2009

This summer, check out a fabulous retrospective video mash up by the fabulous Joe Jeffreys which I, CHRIS CONNER, did some shooting and editing on. You can see it June 18th at the premiere at the world famous Lincoln Center in New York City. I'll be there! Here's the trailer from YouTube:

It’s the ultimate New York City drag show… on video tape.

Drag Show Video Verite screens rare film and video footage that captures the faces and places, past and present, of New York City’s vibrant drag scene.

Now in its third year, Drag Show Video Verite premieres a new edition of all new footage each June during Gay Pride at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, Bruno Walter Auditorium. The 2009 edition premieres June 18, 2009 at 6 pm. Admission is free. Dress optional.

Drag Show Video Verite’s video mash up offers a who’s who of NYC drag over the past 50 years.

Of special note in this year’s line up are recently discovered and never before screened out takes from the landmark pre-Stonewall drag documentary The Queen (1968) with commentary by the film’s star Flawless Sabrina and the world premiere of Tie Biz with Murray Hill, directed by Mary C. Matthews and produced by Murray Hill. Also of note is rare footage of Divine (backstage and onstage in The Neon Woman at Hurrah’s) and Jewel Box Revue lead performer Mr. Lynn Carter. This material is part of The Emerald City, a 1970s NYC public access cable television program that covered the gay community.

As has become a tradition at each edition’s premiere, concert pianist and drag diva Jacqueline Jonee will open the screening with a performance on the Bruno Walter Auditorium’s grand piano accompanying a slide show of NYC drag photographs. This year’s featured photographer is Ves Pitts. Previous featured photographers have included Ande Whyland and Derrick Little.

Drag historian Joe E. Jeffreys produces and directs Drag Show Video Verite. His video work has screened at festivals including The London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival, Cine Kink, New Fest and Reeling. Jeffreys has written on male and female impersonation in encyclopedias, anthologies, academic journals, and periodicals including Time Out New York and The Village Voice.

Drag Show Video Verite’s various editions have subsequently screened at the Fire Island Film and Video Festival, The Fresh Fruit Festival, La Mama, The Gene Frankel Theatre, and The LGBT Center as well as universities and for the Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies at CUNY.

“Ranging across New York’s unique drag heritage...much to stimulate and provoke.” The Guardian

“Brings back those halcyon , hairsprayed days and nights.” Time Out New York

Prep School Blues: Beginnings. Issue 3: Gabrielle Gets Kissed (Script and Pics)

Since the comic book has, for budget reasons, had to go on indefinite hiatus, here's the script of Issue 3, Gabrielle Gets Kissed, plus some sketches and photos. Hopefully we can get the comic started up again at some point, until then, you can get an idea of what the third issue would have been like.

In Issue 3, a young Gabrielle expects a visit from her best friend and next door neighbor Fareed, but becomes angry when Fareed brings along his new friend Larsen. Gabrielle learns how to deal with boys.

ISSUE 3: GABRIELLE GETS KISSED

Story by Chris Conner

Art by Cameron Lewis

Gabrielle, age 10, sits at her mirror, combing her hair. She wears a nightgown.

GABRIELLE NARRATION: I waited longer than usual for Fareed that night. I listened for smack of the pebbles against my window to know that he was there.

A pebble smacks against the window. Gabrielle opens it. She looks down and sees Fareed standing outside. They smile at each other.

GABRIELLE NARRATION: Fareed had lived next door forever. Since we were five, he always snuck out of his house and night and came to my window. We could talk all night long.

FAREED: Gabby! Climb out!

Gabrielle climbs down her trellis towards Fareed. She looks happy to see him. Larsen steps out of the shadows. Gabrielle glares at him. She does not like the look of this.

FAREED: I brought a friend with me. Gabby, this is Larsen.

GABRIELLE: Oh, hi.

LARSEN: What do you guys want to do?

GABRIELLE: Let's play a game?

LARSEN: A game. Really?

GABRIELLE: Hide and seek. I hide. You guys seek.

Gabrielle runs away into the darkness. The boys follow her into a nearby park. Gabrielle crouches down inside a gazebo as the boys search around the park.

GABRIELLE NARRATION: I couldn't believe Fareed did this. I didn't know this Larsen kid. And I did not want him hanging out with us. I was so mad at Fareed.

Fareed finds Gabrielle in the gazebo. They are quiet definitely in puppy love, but struggling to deny it.

FAREED: Gotcha.

GABRIELLE: Wow. Good job.

FAREED: You're mad at me.

GABRIELLE: You bet I am. This is like our thing.

FAREED: What?

GABRIELLE: I thought we're best friends.

FAREED: We are.

GABRIELLE: Oh really?

FAREED: ... Really.

Fareed grabs Gabrielle and sloppily kisses her on the lips. Gabrielle punches him in the face.

GABRIELLE: Gross!

Gabrielle stomps away angrily.

GABRIELLE: I'm going to go find your friend Larsen. I bet he's not into kissing and yucky stuff like you!

Gabrielle turns back and looks at Fareed. He is very hurt.

GABRIELLE NARRATION: Actually, I kind of liked kissing. But I wasn't about to tell Fareed that.

THE END.

Well, that should give you an idea of what it would have been like. No future issues on the horizon anytime soon, but make sure to check out Season 3 of PSB now on YouTube!
